I use Sunsilk De-Frizz....shampoo, conditioner, and 24/7 creme. I think it will help with the poofy problem because it defines the curls. Sunsilk also makes an poofy line that might also work, but I haven't tried it.

I have the same type of hair and unfortunately I always spend a half hour straightening it to get the poof out. However, if you use a shampoo that's for straightening it tends to give a little less volume as normal. I use Sunsilk straightening shampoo and conditioner...it's in a purple bottle. Also, it's best if you don't let your hair completely air dry because I know that's why my hair poofs the most. Put the defuser on your hair dryer and dry most of it under low heat. If you have frizzies, get Paul Mitchell hair syrum. Rub a tiny bit in your fingers and work it through the ends..not too close to the root though because it will make it oiley.
Hope this helps a little, I know sometimes nothin really helps the poof unless you want it totally down with a lot of gel and then it gets greesy and nasty. I gave up on that and you may want to invest in a hair straightner anyway you'll love it once you do it once..that's if you have the patience lol

I suggest you wo to Wal-Mart of Target whichever is closes and get some Garnier Fructis Sleek and Shine Shampoo, Conditioner and Anti-Frizz Serum. The Shampoo and Conditioner shouldn't be over $3.00 each and the Anti-Frizz Serum is about $5.00. So altogether it should be about $11.00 plus tax. It's also sold at Walgreens, CVS, Duane Reade, Rite Aid and whevever hair care products are sold. I use it especially in the summer because I can't straighten my hair then I just wash, condition, and comb the serum through my hair and blow dry until comepletely or half way dry (depending on how much time I have) . It is awesome you can go like 16-20 hours and no frizz. I live in Orlando (the humidity mecca) so trust me if it can work here in hot summer months like August than it can certainly work whevever you are. Hope this helps good luck. . . .

For the frizziness i exploit John Freda frizz ease. I take showers at nightan to make my hair a lot less poofy and curly interior the morning I placed my hair into pigtails then possibly a million inch down from the hair tie I placed yet another hair tie and that i repeat many times until eventually the right. It makes my hair alot a lot less poofy yet each and every now and then it really is somewhat damp. I also use a leave in conditioner and shampoo and standard conditioner it truly is meant for frizzy unmanageable hair.

I have curly hair also and when I want to calm it down, but leave it curly still I use freeze ease hair serum. It works really well if the directions are followed that are on the back of the tube.

I agree w/the one who said the Garnier Fructis stuff. I have the same type of hair and you don't have to blow dry it. I just put the anti-frizz serum in my hair and let it air-dry most of the time.

a leave in conditioner may help calm it down. Maybe a spray on like infusium? Have you ever tried hot rollers? BIG hot rollers may help keep the curls/waves, but smooth it down & make it sleeker }i{
