First I would like to thank the Christians who answered my questions regarding the Devotional Bible I gave my sister for Christmas. She and her husband were very pleased with it.

I asked Christians on the R&S for a book review of this version because I am an atheist and though I have read the bible, I am unfamiliar with all the editions currently available.

My question for all of you is:

Have you ever given a gift that was out of your realm of belief completely but meant something spiritually to the recipient?

If you have not, would you?

Why or why not?

.

Of course. I gave a "Risen Christ" crucifix to an Eastern Orthodox Priest who is a dear friend.

I sent an adorable ceramic angel to my neice-by-marriage.

Why would I NOT give something to someone just because it doesn't reflect MY religious views? If I'm a friend, I support them in THEIR choices; I don't try to get them to adopt MINE.

I would not gift a bible if I was atheist. That you gave a bible might imply an endorsement of things biblical.

Anyhow that's one point of view.

On the other hand you made the gift out of consideration and respect for the values of the receivers. It was a very nice and decent thing to do and I'm not knocking it. It's just not what I'd have done.
