#1 Jobs. Homeland Security created a large number of good paying jobs in airport security, Immigration, and other related fields.
#2 It stimulated the economy. Suddenly, there was demand for baggage x-ray machines and all sorts of equipment to make everybody feel safe.
#3 It allowed us to live in fear. It humbled us before the world. It shows how foolish we were and are still. Remember how panicy we got when the alert system first came out? We couldn't do anything but watch the news when the threat levels rose to "orange". I am not say this is a good thing; quite the reverse actually. All I am saying this is important.
