Funny you should ask... We talked about this today over lunch.

It was a coworker at his home and his new wife prepared an elegant dinner. A small dinner party with servers and a five course meal.

Soup was served and it was PEA SOUP. Yuck. I can't stand peas. I sat staring at it wondering what I was going to do. I struggled with a few sips.

Would it be rude to NOT eat it?

No, I will not eat something that I find offensive or that I know I do not like. I will always be polite in my refusal but I will not eat.
If it is something that is not offensive and I have never tried before I will try a small sample explaining that I would not want to waste such beautiful food.

Yes! My grandma made the worst stuffed shells, and somehow she got it in her head that I loved them. I always gagged them down to make her happy. Other than her stuffed shells she was an awesome cook. She made the best biscuit this side of the Mississippi.

I will pretend and not put too much on my plate to see how good it is .If it is good then I get more. my neighbors always have everyone over for the holidays, and their idea of cooking a ham or turkey is until it falls off the bone!! """DRY AND TASTELESS""""

All depends. If it's a relative, particulary a parent, I would tell them right then and there their food is trash. However, if it's someone I'm not really close to, then I would be nice so I don't offend them.
