I was personally told no food or water after 8 p.m for my dog.

Drop-off was between 8 and 9 a.m. the next morning, which would make it 12+ hours depending on when they actually perform the surgery.

Your vet may be different, though... you never can tell.

Stop the water and food for 12 hours until surgery. Then after surgery like 4 hours after give about 1/4 cup of food every 2 hours. For 6 hours.

After having several of these surgeries done on dogs and cats, the procedure with my vet is:

No food or water after 6PM...the surgeries are usually performed in the earlier hours of the morning at vet clinics, so unless the vet has informed you differently, that's the basic routine at my clinic.

If you question anything with your pets, especially regarding procedures, call your vet...even after hours. They would much rather you called for information than have to reorganize their surgery schedule because of undo mistakes...that's what they're there for...if your vet has a problem with that, you have the wrong vet.

My vet has always told me for any surgery the dog should not eat or drink anything past midnight the night before you take the dog in for surgery.

Follow what your vet told you, or you will be wearing it. If it was a person going in for surgery, they usually tell them do not eat anything from 12 midnight the night before surgery. I would go with at least 6to 8hours before and nothing heavy.
