Why is it that it's socially acceptable to joke about Christians but not Muslems?

Come on now. Let's have some jokes and slurs about Muhammed. His followers are famous for thier sense of humor!!!!!

Muslims are not capable of comprehending that nothing a man says can hurt him.
I believe that if a man attacks my beliefs, they are not attacking me, they are attacking the god i believe in, and he is powerful enough to decide the circumstances regarding punishment, should he consider it necessary.
In their schools, maybe a little 'stick and stones' lesson would help.

An Ayatollah dies and goes to paradise. He's getting the two Drachma grand tour when a soul goes by draped in gold trimmed pure white robe with virgins throwing rose pedals in his path as he ascends the gold inlaid white marble steps to his massive white marble mansion. The Ayatollah asks the guide who that is and the guide says, "Oh, he's a lawyer.". They continue on the tour and enter a huge building with a 200 foot high arched enterance way and the hall equally as impressive stretches forever. After walking for miles down the hall they take a left into another hall with 100 ft. high ceilings and walk again, coming to another turn into a hall with 50 ft. ceilings. this goes on an on with each turn the hall becomes smaller and narrower until finally they are going down a hall so narrow they have to walk single file and duck into doorways to let others pass. They come to a rough hewn wooden door, the guide opens it and inside there is a small straw cot, a basin and pitcher and a small window that looks out over nothing special. The guide says, "This is where you will reside for eternity here in Paradise.". The Ayatollah is totally taken aback by this and blusters out, "I'm an Ayatollah of the Faith and THIS is all I get, why did the lawyer get so much?" The angel says, " Ayatollahs are a drachma a dozen, he's the only lawyer we've got here.".

It is socially acceptable to make a joke about whatever you want provided one is NOT impolite or rude blasphemy. The fact is that Muslims REACT more devotedly to bad taste of those who invent jocks about Muslims. We, Christians believe the reaction to OVERHEATED bad joke would eventually come, when it is meant to be.
On the other hand there is an issue on tolerance, you guys should really visit Greece or Bulgaria or Serbia or even Bosnia. Why? To see people living normally, making jokes on each others account, on one's own as well, and enjoy it. Problems occur only when an unprovoked "HELP" of so called "international community" is delivered, then things start heating up. Go to Bosnia, ALMOST everything is the same as it used to be before the war. They sit together, drink together and tell jokes together - Christians (both main confessions) and Muslims.

I think Muslims tend to be a bit more sensitive about religious joking. Probably a cultural thing. Joking isn't funny when it's hurtful to decent people.

Still I think it's fair enough to poke a little fun about the 72 virgin thing -- so long as we don't take it too far. Hopfully everyone knows it only in fun.

Muslims are more defensivve perhaps because of the recent outbreak in the prejudice against them....this is all human nature...i read an anwer by someone to another question saying its 5% of the population who starts 95% of the trouble
expanding on that id say that 5% of the trouble is continued by the rest of the world and 100% of that population gets the blame.
where is the sense in that?

It is socially acceptable to joke about Christians. Just turn on your TV. Plain and simple, our society accepts it. I hate it and cringe every time I hear a blasphemous joke.

Perhaps Christians should start beheading those to insult our beliefs? Beheading sure seems to work wonders.

Because if some makes jokes about Christian they do nothing and turn the other cheek, but as we have seen with he Muslims and what happened if some made jokes about anything that is remotely related to Islam or Muhammad, they get angry, cause fire, riots, kill etc. of course not all of them do, but some or many do and that is enough to get people scare of them. That is why.
by the way, I think people should be respected regardless of what they believe or not.

If you joke about Muslims, they'll cut your throat. If you joke about Christians, the worst that will happen is you'll end up in a sea of fire for eternity.

well isn't it obvious why you can't say anything about Muslims? remember 9/11. Muslims take slurs a little more seriously, and there are groups that just hate americans already, so that's why.
