Depending on the weather, it's very walkable - it's a half mile from Times Square to Penn Station. The pedestrian and vehicular traffic may be unbearable on New Years Eve - you may be better off taking the subway - it's only one stop, but it may be impossible to walk through the crowds.

It's definitely walkable from Penn Station to Times Square... however, during New Years, I suggest you arrive early, as people start "lining the streets" very early!
Good luck and Happy New Year!

Penn Station and Madison Square Garden are basically part of the same complex. So walking from one to the other won't be an issue. A bit out of touch with the restaurant scene in that neighborhood, however, and was never really in touch with the clothing store scene in the first place. ;-)

Its about 8-10 blocks between Penn Station & Times Square which is not much at all. I used to work in Times Square and would walk to Macy's (which is right across from Penn Station), shop, then walk back to work during my lunch break.

Yes, almost any place in Manhattan is walkable, which can actually be faster than taking public transit, or a car/cab. I went to school in NYC and walked there form the Port Authority bus terminal daily. I even walked nearly the ENTIRE length of Manhattan Island on tome, while job hunting, so it's doable.

Its a very easy walk.
Follow the 7th Ave Exit Signs out of Penn Station,
Once on 7th Ave, make a left and walk up 7th to Times Square (7th Ave and Broadway and 42nd Street).

This is definitely walkable. However, don't do it late at night. Also bear in mind that I'm the type that will park in first open space I come to no matter how far away it is from my destination. I don't mind walking.

Yes. It is nine blocks. It will take you about 10 minutes, unless it is rush hour and the sidewalks are packed with commuters.
