Because the smart and open-minded theists know that evolution is a fact and creationism is a theory.

Let me get this straight....
There are people that believe in God and people that don't believe in God that accept the theory of evolution as being the most probable explanation for the way the world is today. But you wonder why people that do not believe in God, can't believe that a non existent God sucked face with a pile of dirt to make man.....

By definition, an atheist can't believe in creationism by the mere fact he is an atheist.

Thumbs down for the lack of logic here. Creationism requires a supreme being or supernatural intervention. Since atheists don't believe in supreme being or see any evidence for supernatural intervention, they don't believe in creationism.

They can only speak for themselves, but most of the ones that I know have never attended seminary level classes and are not willing to listen to those that have. They prefer the old adage: ignorance is bliss. I find this strange since Jesus's ministry was all about looking at theological teachings outside the old traditional teaching. But hey, what do I know, I live in the south with a whole bunch of them.

Because creation requires a god. Atheists do not believe in gods. Hence the name atheist.

Because atheists don't believe that a higher energy created anything because they don't believe in a higher, intelligent force and it would have to be intelligent to create. It seems more sensible for some to believe that order, form and intent started all by itself. In other words intelligence created itself. So that's some of the reason.

Sort of answered your own question there. an atheist doesn't believe in a Creator God- that's what makes them atheists.
Then again, I don't believe scientists have absolutely any clue about science, since all science is based on theory.

In order to accept creationism, you have to believe in a creator. Therefore, an atheist, by definition, can not believe in creationism.

Atheists usually require evidence to back up beliefs. Creationism doesn't have any.
