I think you are 100% correct. I find it difficult to smile and share in someones good fortune if it in someway implies that my own ability is not up to scratch... This is especially a problem when the action/event in question is one that I pride myself on my ability to do...
Very petty and trivial and a character development point that I am consciously aware of and trying to work on.
Good luck with your own personal journey!

Walking away and ignoring someone or directly trying to sabotage someone rather than complimenting them isn't just jealousy. It's a deep seated feeling of inadequacy; not just that they're better at that one thing but that you don't measure up to them on ANY level. It shows really low self esteem. If you're feeling that way or you know someone who is, that person needs counseling. As soon that person realizes all the wonderful qualities they already have, they'll have no problem complimenting someone else on something they're good at. The people who feel the best about themselves have the most praise for other people because they know that nothing someone else does will detract from who they are!

The sign of an adult is not letting silly jealousy get in the way of behaving in a mature manner.
That means giving compliments when they're deserved.
Jealousy is a waste of time and makes the person being jealous look stupid.

i usually am the best:S
but if someone is better at me at something...if it is like something that i have worked hard to be good at, but that person is still better...i usually just put up with it.
if the person is really good at something that i never took the time to learn...then usually i'm not jealous.
i used to be very jealous...but these days i tend to be happier for people and their accomplishments etc.
i think i've grown as a person.

What are some signs? What you just said. If you get a self esteem you wouldn't be so jealous of someone else because you would value your own skills and appreciate someone elses without being a hater.

I know what you mean, I have really not liked people, and wanted to totally avoid them just because they were better at pool than I am! It's odd, but it's true. People get very jealous and avoid people all together for the weirdest things.

you wish for an instant you were in their shoes..you imagine what it would be like to be them. You get angry when they accomplish something or get complimented
