I am African-Ameican but I have long hair that is healthy and still growing. I am from Los Angeles and have had my stylist for years. I've never had a relaxer or perm, I just get my hair pressed and curled. I go to school at UC Berkeley and I don't know what to do with my hair. I don't want a new stylist to mess up the work my current one has done in growing my hair and I don't know if I should get braids because my hair is long and I don't want it to fall out. Any suggestions for a low maintenance style that I can get while in school without having to do my hair myself? Plz respond!!!

My favorite look for Black women is the very short Natural. Less than a quarter inch. It's low maintenence-- it will dry instantly after you wash it, and you won't have to comb it. And if you buy clippers you can just run them over your head once a week to keep it short.

I say go with cornrows just have your regular stylist do them she won't make them too tight. As far as your hair falling out. Its not really, when you have braids you get an accumulation of dead hair the would normally fall out unoticed when you have your hair out. So when you take the braids out it seems like your hair is falling out but it acutally just the dead hair that falls out day to day. I say go with the cornrows.

I love Operas hair styles, try getting a book and cut it if you need to... it is always cool to get a new shorter look no matter what the hair kind. I honestly am glad I dont have your curly kind of hair, although it seems like it is easy to fix and it is soooooooo soft......

i think you should straighten it if you want to keep it long. i also think african americans with short hair look good. if you've seen American Idol 4 i'm talking about latoya's hairstyle.
