"According to Microsoft Windows Vista contains hundreds of new features; some of the most significant include an updated graphical user interface and visual style dubbed Windows Aero, improved searching features, new multimedia creation tools such as Windows DVD Maker, and completely redesigned networking, audio, print, and display sub-systems. Vista also aims to increase the level of communication between machines on a home network using peer-to-peer technology, making it easier to share files and digital media between computers and devices. For developers, Vista introduces version 3.0 of the .NET Framework, which aims to make it significantly easier for developers to write high-quality applications than with the traditional Windows API

For a virs scan try using Spybot.com. I think it is also called Spy Bot search and destroy.
10,000 Microsoft Corp. workers gave birth to the latest version of the company’s Windows operating system, Vista, which begins selling to consumers in January. From the beginning, Vista has seemed like it was something from another time. The updated software is in a Web 2.0 era where ever more applications are moving off the PC and onto the Internet. According to, Microsoft Chief Executive, Steven A. Ballmer, “this time the consuming process of cranking out the code, which created complexity and bogged down development, will never be repeated.
I GOT THIS FROM AN ARTICLE ONLINE SOMEWHERE. HAPPEN TO COME ACROSS IT THE OTHER DAY...

You can download ccleaner for free here: http://bit.ly/1Bk5V5C
First open CCleaner
Go to the Cleaner tab and you will be confronted by a very confusing lineup of checkboxes.
To make this brief, below is my recommended setup:
Under internet explorer check temporary internet files, cookies, and last download location. Most users don't really need this stuff. keep history and bookmarks unchecked, history is a maybe, but you don't want to lose bookmarked sites. You can normally leave Windows Explorer, System, and Advanced alone.
Run CCleaner and it will start deleting files.
afterward it will present you with a list of the files deleted, you really don't need to go through it as it will be several pages long.
The registry cleaner is recommended for slightly more advanced users. Use it after uninstalling programs as they will often leave behind incorrect registry entries.
If you decide to run Registry cleaner then review the items detected and always back up the registry (I keep a folder aside for this)
The Tools tab lets you uninstall programs and set startup programs. Why do you need this if Windows has all of these features? Especially with Vista Home Ed. The windows defender software explorer( startup programs) doesn't pick up some entries (however software explorer is easier to use).
Using CCleaner to uninstall programs and then check for leftover registry entries takes less time.
Under Options you can determine how CCleaner cleans your files. I leave this alone.

SAN FRANCISCO (AFP) - Chinks have been found in the armor of new Vista software that Microsoft has touted as the safest operating system it ever designed, a computer security firm said.
Determina Security Research, in Silicon Valley, said it notified Microsoft of half a dozen software vulnerabilities, including potential for hackers to take administrative control of computers.
"The vulnerable code is present in all versions of Windows up to and including Windows Vista," Determina warned in a security bulletin on its website.
A Russian programmer that also discovered the potential to exploit a Vista weakness to gain access to computer systems published the information on the Internet on December 15.
Microsoft is working to patch Vista, according to Determina. A business version of Vista was released in November and is to be available for the home computer market on January 30.
Hackers could invade Vista-based computers by sending booby trapped emails or tricking people into visiting websites that secretly plant malicious codes on their machines, according to Determina.
There were no reports of hackers taking advantage of the weakness in any Windows operating systems.

So special? Mostly its the new icons. Vista has had a whole new graphical makeover. It still has the same old security flaws that all previous versions of Microsoft Windows have suffered from. I know, every time they say they're made it "better". Every time it turns out to be a lie :) Its really not worth the £399.00 price tag it commands.
Best malware protection = SuperAntiSpyware.
