I saw something in a newspaper a while ago where you can upload your photos to this website and people can go there and use them as backgrounds or whatever if they like them... Has anyone heard of that, or what the website is or are if there's more than one? sorry kind of a broad question with few details, but I would appreciate any help on it thanks

There's a website that I really like and it has quality photos, you can submit your own photos to try to get it added to their galleries. http://www.backgroundsarchive.com that's the only one that I really know of like that, it's absolutely free, no copyrights etc, it's a great site! I hope this helps you :)

The kind of photography you are describing is called Stock photography. It is one of the main ways photographers earn a living, so I find it depressing to see people want to give away their work.

You can post to shutterbug.com and actually earn money for people using your images. The payment can range from very little (0.25$) to significant ($500.) for one time use licenses. I don't know of a site which allows free downloads, but have no doubt at least a few exist. If your pictures are good enough people want them, you should try to earn at least a few bucks. That digital camera wasn't free you know, nor is the computer your using now.

There are all kinds of sites where you can upload and download photos, the restrictions vary from site to site.
