just purchased a 1980 MGB and am trying to find out some history on this vehicle.

Don't pay any attention to them. The name of the company was Morris Garages. The model is a "B". Other popular cars made by MG:

MG-TC
MG-TF
MG Magnette
MG Midget
MGA

MG stands for 'Morris Garages' and the b is the model. MG started as a small company putting sports bodies onto morris chassis, the MG you have was built by BMC [British Motor corporation]
