give her love and your time, take her shopping, spend the day together and get to know her. it would be good for both of you.

The most important thing is to ask her what she wants. She has been discarded by someone and her feelings were not taken into account from the very start of her life. She has been bounced around without people caring about how she feels. You would be a star if you give her what she wants. It would be a pleasant change of pace for her. Give her kindness as well.

I remember when I was that young getting a diary to put down what's going on in her life and what not. I think that would make a nice present.

I think girls of all ages love stuffed animals if they mean something. Maybe buy her a cute teddy bear and attach a sweet note about how you're ecstatic to have her in the family--she'll love it. Nothing flashy, just something that will help her feel comfortable.
Good luck!

How about some jewlery or nail polish type stuff as a token gift and a gift card. Then you can tell you her would like to go to the mall with her and it is a good opportunity to get to know her and what she likes?
