I have a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee; however it is a 6 cylinder. I get about 19-21 in the city and 24-26 on the highway. I would imagine a V8 would get a little less than what I experience. I love my Grand Cherokee. It has been fun to drive and very reliable. If you are getting a good deal, I would say, "Go for it!"

You didn't say what year Jeep because age is also a factor not only mileage. Only buy the Jeep if you are willing to do all of the maintenance that comes along with 200k miles. Keep 1500-2000 in the bank to replace the engine or transmission, whichever fails first.

To the guy that said Jeeps are not known for reliability, I say you have NO CLUE about what you are talking. The inline 6 from jeep is one of the most bulletproof engines out there. However, with 200k miles, I would skip this one. Unless however it is gonna cost u less than 400 bucks, then go for it, but expect to have to replace some items soon.

Jeeps are one of the most reliable vehicles ever made, even with 200k plus miles on them.
That being said, any time I buy a vehicle with that many miles, I do so with the intention of rebuilding and modifying most of the drive train and suspension.
If you plan on using it for off roading, that many miles is on the entire vehicle, suspension included, so be prepared for the fact that repairs will be immanent.
I like Jeeps, and have an page for parts for them in the automotive section of my website http://www.buddyandoscars.com/auto_parts_five.htm if you need help getting parts.

Jeep 4.0s are great but any auto for sale w/that kind of miles is gonna need work.
If it is a 1987 - 1990 4.0 model, run away.
If it has the 2.8 V6 then buy 2 and use them as book ends.

It depends on the year so it should be at least 15 years old. The jeep engines are pretty indestructible if you take good care of them but you will need to rebuild it eventually so try to factor some repair costs into your budget.

That's a lot of miles for any car. If it is a new jeep I would be concerned about where they were driving and if it is older you are going to end up having to replace a lot of parts if not the engine and tranny.

man thats high miles, if the body is in good shape, with that many miles you have to add in the cost of a rebuild, tranny and engine.
The suspension is probally in need of attention.
I personally dont buy cars with more then 100k miles on them because a heavy foot like most people have just kills cars after 150k miles no matter what kinda car it is.
I believe a tranny rebuild is recomended after 170k on most cars and truck along with a whole lot of other things.
Dont waste your money on this sorry to tell you its not worth the stress.

4.0s are great motors but thats a lot of miles even for that motor and unless your going to rebuild it and what not its not worth it because your going to have to eventually. if its the 4.0 and you still buy it then you can if it was maintained well go for like another 50k or so but if its the v-6 model then you would want to run away those things are lemons and their carborated so they suck gas a lot more even though its like a 2.6. but for the most part any 4.0 is a good engine. it just depends on if you want to be spendin more money later fixin the motor.

Well, that depends on the year.
The average car should be driven 10,000-12,000 miles per year.
I assume you mean that it has 202,000 miles - so that would be average if the Jeep was made in 1989-1991.
200,000+ is still a lot of miles no matter what you are looking at...
