As is the case with most isolated words, it can mean all sorts of things in different contexts; it can mean "to employ", "to keep [someone] busy", "to engage [someone] with", "to be concerned with" etc.
Try a good dictionary (the following is a good online dictionary foer English and German):

then go through all the translations and pick the one you find most fitting for your particular context.
