Ok... my dad had the flu or something. On Christmas Eve he weighed himself... Christmas he weighed himself again and lost a total of 11lbs. To me that seems like too much even for the flu. My mom said he's fine... but I am a bit concerned. Could it be just a case of the flu?? Or should he call the doctor? I said to call the doctor ... but they think I am a worry wart. I understand that my dad is a grown man... but I would hate for something to be overlooked. Thank you in advance for you help.

Yes the scale is working correctly... my parents have been dieting and weighing themselves daily... that is how he found out he lost 11 lbs. My mom was only off by a pound or so. Believe me... I said the same thing. Thanks for the answers... keep them coming =)

Yeah that is A LOT of weight to lose. I could maybe understand 3-4 pounds because he's not eating but 11?? Even 11 pounds in a week is a lot to lose. You're not a worrywart for calling the doctor. Your family will thank you later if they find out there is a bigger problem such as diabetes.

That is way too much to lose in one day. Not to be rude but are we sure the scale is working right. The reason why I ask is I had an old scale and according to it I was losing 7 lbs a day when in reality I wasn't losing an ounce.

I would have him/your mom call the doctor to make sure that he is alright and what to look for in case of dehydration. I have heard of people losing 10-11 lbs by way of colon cleansing (enemas), but, it can be hazardous in any manner. Better to be safe, than sorry!

11 pounds is a lot but water weighs a lot, if it is coming out both ends at once (sorry to be gross) it can happen fast, as long as he is keeping some water down he should have settled down by now, if not he should call the Dr.

It sounds like a lot in one day...but I am sure It's possible because I balloon up 10-12lbs during pms...it's amazing the difference!
I would say if he is back on his feet and his appetite is back then no worries..just introduce "heavy" foods slowly or he can get sick. Like on SURVIVOR when they win the food challenges then get sick from eating so much so fast.

It might be ok if it is only for one day.
It could be excess water.
