Limewire is a peer-to-peer sharing network.
Whatever other people share is available for you to download including illegal copyrighted material.
Limewire will not tell you anything about the legality of any file, and will allow you to download whatever is available.
You are responsible for what you download the person sharing the file is responsible for what they are sharing.
You can also download viruses this way so be careful.
Hope that clears up your confusion.

Limewire will not prevent you from downloading an illegal copy of a file. However, you can set your search options to filter files that copyright owners request not be shared. You can find that under Tools-->Options-->Filters, in the Content tab, and you can read more about the filtering system and different types of licenses at http://filtered.limewire.com/learnmore/contentFiltering/ I have done a number of searches with Limewire, and I have never come up with any files that were actually licensed.

If you are truly concerned about being able to avoid downloading illegal songs, your best bet will be to not use Limewire. The iTunes music store has a huge selection of reasonably-priced songs which are guaranteed to be legal. If you're looking for something you don't have to pay for, check out the site I've listed below for a few links that can help you out.

Just by downloading the material which is usually copyrighted, you have already done something illegal. It doesn't matter if you don't share it or copy it or sell it, you didn't pay for the song therefore making the download illegal. Limewire won't tell you that that it's illegal because 99% of the files being shared on limewire are illegal.

Limewire will not tell you if the file is being illegally shared.

However, you will have to see if the file under copyright protection, or if it is not licensed to be shared. If so, then it is illegal to have downloaded it, and it will be up to you to decide if you want to keep it. Just because you don't share or sell a file doesn't mean that it isn't illegal to have it if you obtained it illegally.

Limewire actually has this little thing you have to click on before you downloading it, letting you know that unless you have premission from the artist/owner of the copyright, the file is illegal.

It's not limewire's responsibility to police you, it's yours.

And yes, all of those songs and movies you have downloaded are illegal.

The only legal use for Limewire is if you already own the music or video and just don't know how to or have software to make your own MP3s, WMAs, etc. If you don't own the music or video it is illegal. However, music and video companies can't use Limewire to tell if you downloaded legaly or illegaly if you don't share your download destination folder. That's how they tell if you have illegaly downloaded material on your computer - by trying to download their stuff from your shared folder(s). If you are worried about this, delete your download destination from Preferences - Sharing - Shared Folders. Click on the folder you download to and click Remove. Of course I have to say my best advice is not to illegaly download things in the first place!

Limewire does NOT warn you when you illegally download copyrighted material.
It doesn't matter if you sell it or share it.
You downloaded something that was illegally shared by someone else.
Unless you bought the CD/Music/Video/Program you don't have a right to use it, even for personal use.
If a bank robber gave you money (that wasn't his to give) would it be OK for you to keep it? Do you think the police would agree?
What about the bank's owner/shareholders?

i could recommend you to no longer get carry of those. On limewire be very careful with what you get carry of. determine that as quickly as you're downloading which you in basic terms get carry of data which you already know are music data like Mp3's and such. greater circumstances than no longer the zip data will comprise an outbreak. in basic terms avert them completely.

No, they won't tell you. They just raid your house in the middle of the night and smash your computer instead. This actually happened to a cousin of a brother of a friend of a friend of this guy that I know. They just came into his house in the middle of the night wearing riot gear and screaming, "POLICE! ILLEGAL DOWNLOADS!" Then they shot tear gas at his parents and smashed his hard drive with sledgehammers all over the floor, and they took this guy and they put him in jail. And while he was in jail, this big ugly guy made him be his girlfriend.

So don't download illegal movies OK?
