because when you sleep you move around a lot in your bed, and your head- on your pillow.

It's probably because when you're sleeping, your hair is being bunched up and tousled around, and it dries as it's doing that. My hair does the same thing, so I understand your confusion. But I did a little experiment where I let my hair dry while I was awake one night, and dry while I was sleeping another.

You move when you sleep, your hair isn't in a position to dry and dry straight!

your hair gets matted under your head and the pillow. when you sleep, your hair gets stuck in a position and it keeps in that position till you wake. so, instead of just sleeping, i would push up my hair from under my head and sleep.
