If it is your mom's house, it is your mom's rules....wait until you get your own place.

Puppies are a huge responsibility....just like a little child.

Are you old enough and responsible enough to take care of a puppy? Do you keep your room clean? Help with other chores around the house. Puppies are messy. They have accidents. They chew things. Will you clean up when the pup poops or pees on the floor or yell for mom to do it? If you can't keep your own room clean without a dog, there is no way you will keep it clean with a pup that chews everything up, including your nice clothes, your shoes, the makeup you leave laying around, or cleaning up all the poop and pee when you are at school and come home to a house full of it. Are you really ready for all of that? What happens to the pup after it chews a big hole in the sofa, a chair, the carpet, etc? What will mom do then? Take it to the pound? You need to think about all this stuff carefully and decide if a puppy is really what you nee and want at this time.

It would be better to just let your Mom say "No!" than to talk her into a yes, and thus and thus reasons make her regret her decision. If you want to keep the dog, you'll have to make sure your Mom is fine with all that it involves, which is more in some areas, if you have an inside dog.

Here are some pros and cons about inside dogs:

Advantage: You will not have to buy a dog house
Disadvantage: You will have to prepare a "room" for your dog - a secluded, yet "with everybody else" place, not to warm, not too cold
Advantage: You need not have worries about random dog doo all over the yard
Disadvantage: You will have to make sure your dog gets enough "outside time" to use for doing his/her business
Advantage: You will know where your dog is at all times
Disadvantage: You may have to worry about your dog getting underfoot
Advantage: Your dog, being around visitors, will be quite used to people
Disadvantage: You will no longer be able to have people over who are allergic to dogs
Advantage: You won't have to worry about your dog knocking over everybody's trashes
Disadvantage: Your trash will be knocked over and dug through at least once before your dog knows that he/she is not allowed in the trash

Those are to name just a few. More disadvantages are that your dog will get dog fur all over the house and if he/she gets wet, wet dog odors and muddy paw prints all over the house, too.

More advantages are that your dog will be more likely to be well trained around people - no jumping up on you, or barking at every little thing. Neccessity will force you to teach these things to the dog, or get rid of him/her.

Your Mom is already thinking about getting an inside dog, you mentioned. Maybe you shouldn't press it. If you do, you can make a list of all the pros and cons, give it to your mother, and explain that you will take care of the feeding and watering (twice a day), cleaning up dog fur (this can be very hard), and quite possibly, even the training (two fifteen minute sessions a day, plus play time, adding up to at least an hour)!!!

I hope this helps, and Good Luck getting an inside dog.

You don't say how old you are, if anyone is home during the day, whether or not you can afford the vetrinary car or put in the time to truly care for the dog.

Are you willing to walk the dog for 45 minutes before school and 45 minutes when you get home? Can you afford good food for him, a crate, toys, training, vaccinations, etc? Are you prepared to be this animal's best friend for the next 10-15 years? What happens when you get involved in sports at school or go to prom or want to spend the night at your friend's house? What happens to the dog then? Who will watch him when you go on vacation or leave for college?

Lots of information is needed before you can be a pet owner. Can you answer some of those questions for us?

I have tried this so many times. And it actually works. Simply tell her that if the dog ever gets in her way, let you know because you will take care of it. You can also say that you will bring the puppy to the vet (if you have a car). You may want to tell her that you will feed the dog, give it love, take care of it, and make sure it doesnt get in trouble. Even if you didnt, tell her you have done some research about getting one and you have read some articles online that tell you the basics to getting a puppy. Well I hope this helps!

1. explain to your mom how you will pay for the dog's food
2. explain that you understand the responsiblities and what they are.
3. explain what will happen to the dog when you go to college...parents often get stuck with them when you go to live in the dorm or an apt that doesn't allow pets.
4. explain how you will potty train the dog.
5. prove to her that you will walk and feed the dog and meet all its needs without being reminded.
a good way to start is by proving your responsibility with household chores like dishes and vacuuming and mopping and other responsibilities around the house. if you do those without being asked she might start to think you are responsible enough. but you have to work out the college thing, too.

If you still live at home it will NEVER BE YOUR PUPPY! Every puppy my kids' have brought in becomes mine. It is not because they don't take care of them. It's is because the puppies gravitate to the mom of the house. I have several adult dogs that belong to me because I was the one here with them and they know it.Wait til you move out. That way you don't have to ask and Mom won't get a puppy she didn't ask for.

There are many advantages to your dog being an indoor dog. Dogs who spend all of their time outside develop behavioral issues and health concerns. If your mom suggests a dog, tell her you do not want one until she assures you it will be solely an indoor dog. Dogs that live outdoors make me so sad I cannot even describe it.

Just show up one day with an indoor dog. Make sure its a puppy though so she instantly falls in love with it and then you'll have to keep it.

Just let her make up her mind. Chances are, kids will take care of a new dog for a little while, then they lose interest, and now the parents are stuck with a pet that they never wanted.
