Lately, he's been criticizing himself. It seems like he's trying to turn me off. Is this his way of telling me that he's not the right one for me, therefore, I should break up with him?

No.. you should talk to him about it. He could be trying to see if you would tell him the opposite like you can decide if he's right for you. Talk to him!!!!!!

yes he's trying to break up with you...this way it looks like it was your decision and then he's not the bad guy. flip the situation on him so you will get the last laugh. good luck.

maybe he just want to be congratulated... is an self defense mecanism, because few people recoginize us and say it out loud. Maybe if you let him know that you care about him and you thimk he is geat, but that you have recognized his pattern and wont allow it, you´ll get to the bottom of this.
And... bing him up from time to time...

It sounds like he's got a self esteem issue going on.
I wouldn't assume anything. Talk to him about it.

either he has really low self esteem or he is trying to get you to break up with him, either way, you should. He obviously is not stable.
