I think that is way over the top for a wedding present. Especially for a single mom with three children. I'm sure you appreciate the help your sister has given you, but if you give that much money, she may wonder if you really needed that help in the past. Give her $100 if you must, but even that is a lot of money for one person to give.
Put the rest in the bank for an emergency for yourself and children. I'm sure your niece will love any present you would give her.
Personally, I think $50 would be a great gift. No one I know would give any more than that.

You're a single mom and can afford a $500 gift?! Wish I had your troubles!
I think that is EXTREMELY generous.
I had some friends get married quite recently and they asked for gift cards from Lowes so that they can do a lot of work on their new house. They already had all the "inside" junk they could possibly want, but needed to build a new deck and fence, etc etc.
So, think about what they already have and what they really need from what kind of store, and think about a gift card.

I am sure she would appreciate it but i dont think you should give it to her. One or two but five is a bit excessive; i am not jealous, i am just thinking you could put that money up for your children's education etc. invest in her future and your childrens give her two max and put $100 into something for each of your children so that they dont have to struggle the way you have and ask anyone else for help. show them that when you get money you can help others and yourself without anyone being shortchanged
i hope you dont feel like you have to do this because of what her mom did for you. you dont owe her anything people are supposed to give and help with a free and clear heart. i am sure that is what your sister did and that she wont expect a return of this nature on her investment in your children
Some here have suggested a gift card but i wouldnt do that as gift cards often have expiration dates and hidden fees for non usage or for not being used in their entirety within 12 months.

I think that is very generous of you especially being a single parent with three kids. When I got married my rich in-laws only gave us $100 and that was our only wedding gift. We eloped so we didn't have the money for a nice wedding.
I would have been very happy with a gift like that...It's a very nice gift.

Holy cow! My hubby's aunt and uncle have a few million and gave us 500 as a gift. We were still shocked, even though it was nothing to them. If you're rasing three kids alone, I would look at her registry, get her maybe 200.00 worth of things they need, and she will be thrilled. 500 is alot of money for a single mom, and your neice will not even think that you should have given more, and neither would your sister. If she's a good sister, anyway!

WOW!
Can I be your niece?
I think your niece would LOVE it as a wedding gift!
(AS LONG as you can afford to give her that much. If you are going to struggle because of this I would lower the amount to $50 or $100).

250 is enough. Don't over do it. Take the other 250 and get a babysitter and go get a complete make over, hair, nails, massage. Ask a friend to meet you at the end of the day and share a bottle of wine and a nice dinner.

That is an extremely generous gift. I'm sure your niece would greatly appreciate it. And if she does not, it's her problem! She can do a lot of good with that money!

Of course she will! Five hundred beats a hole in the head any day of the week! If she is anything like her mom seems to be from your description, she will be very grateful indeed.
