Once again, leave it to the pros!! Don't go doing it at home. Brown hair will turn reddish colored many times with home kits. Then, you can just go in for touch ups.

My first suggestion would be to go to a salon. Ask for a master stylist because they have the most experience. They cost more but they usually tend to do a better job. Don't go for a tone that will bring out coppery highlights. That happens often when brunettes change their color to blonde. The color ends up brassy with orangy tones and looks terrible. If you go blonde you will have to expect having roots when the hair begins to grow out and at that point you will have to have touchups done and even then it can be hard to match up the color. That's why you want to check out salons and stylists and make sure they are using really good products.
Always make sure you have an allergy test done especially if this is your first coloring. Your hair can actually fall out or you can develop a rash if you are allergic to the product.
My suggestion if you don't want to end up with a drastic look that ends up with dark roots would be to do a blonde highlighting on various strands of your hair. You would still get a lighter tone to your hair but the roots would blend in because it wouldn't be an overall blonding. Not to mention blonde coloring has peroxide and dries your hair out. You need to use special conditioning treatments or you eventually fry your hair...
Good luck!!!

It's high maintenance. :) But so worth it. :) If you are going to do this yourself, be sure that when you do the touch up's that you are not pulling the color all the way through your hair - only re-apply to your roots. Do NOT use any color that has "ash" in the color title. If you have dark brunette hair - be careful to not get a "golden" tone, that will only leave orange/red highlights - but they won't be ugly, might even be pretty.
But to maintain the roots - like I said, only do touch up color on the roots - do not pull it all the way through to the ends of your hair. Good luck girl!

Trust me you dont want to dye your brown hair blonde! I did this about four years ago and I'm still trying to get the blonde all out of my hair. No matter what you are going to have the brown roots when your hair starts to grow out. Also if you want to ever dye your hair back to its orginal color, its almost impossible because the brown will just fade out quickly because of the bleach they use on your hair in order to color it blonde.

If u have dark hair, your only option is to remove the dark color first (eg:with bleach) and then use a dye. Maybe try some highlights to lighten it up instead.
If u can afford it go to a salon to change your hair color as they are professionals and they will also use a good treatment in your hair as well
