I tried a couple of things.

The patch: worked but not for long. It made my parts tingle ina bad way so I stopped.

The gum: mmm loved it chewed for 9 months. it really helped me believe I could do it.

Hypnotism: actually helped me get off the gum and sneaking ciggies (every other day)

Pure will: the thing that actually got me to quit was wanting too.

I thought of all the reasons I wanted to and reminded myself of them often.

I started cussing at other smokers in other cars and secretly wishing they's burn themselves really bad.

I made my boyfriend hide his and go out front to smoke/

I drank less and stopped going to places I knew there's be lots of smoking.

I believed i could do it.

I had a plan, I worked out, I had help from friends and family, I celebrated things like not smelling nasty and not wreeking up my car. I thought about my niece and nephew and not being a bad influence on them. I put a smoke counter on my comptuer that tells me how long I've been smoke free, how much money I've saved and how many cigs I haven't smoked.

I read up on quitting.

I realized that after a few days, it would be out of my system and that I could do it.

Nicotine free for 2 months after smoking for 12 years.

You can do it too.

Have you tried going "cold turkey?" Just stop buying them? Think of all the money you'll save! =)

Everyone is different. Some can just walk away from it, others try the patch or the gum; even hypnosis. Whichever method you choose, will work for you.

Being a nonsmoker, it's easy for me to just say walk away from it, that would probably be the least expensive method, but as I've been told by other smokers, it's not easy. So, set your mind to quitting, visualize yourself as being smokefree and having the time of your life. Heck, pray about quitting. Ask God to help you over this hurdle.

Whatever you do, good luck.

Tar and nicotine are out of your system in 48 -72 hours. This has been prooven over and over again. This is the main reason that the courts are overturning the lawsuits against cig manufacturers.

After 48 hours it becomes merely a HABIT. To stop smoking you only have to stop the habit for 30 days. It takes 30 days to start and stop and habits.

After smoking for 20 years I put them down and replaced the habit with my computer skills. Every time I wanted a smoke I grabbed my computer and starting typing.

I agree with Youngatheart. I am in Maine and I quit 2 years ago through a program provided by the Human Resources Department. I had to call a phone #, and talked to a councilor, and they called the pharmacy of my choice, after they determined that I was ready to quit. I was given the patch system take me through all stages, free of charge. But we decided over the phone what the best method was to use. (Patch, gum, etc.) I tried to quit many, many times. I started when I was 17 and smoked for 27 years. After I finished their program, I have been smoke free. My councilor called me to see how it was going, and I had a phone # to call if I needed help. Try your Human Resources. They can be your biggest cheerleaders. I am glad I did call. Good luck to you! I wish you well.

My sister was a die hard smoker- and hynotism worked well for her. If you REALLY want to quit, hypnotism can be very effective. For her it cost about $90
