I wouldn't ask for the drug by name, cause it sounds weird, like you want it. Xanax is a depressant that helps in anxiety. I took ativan which I think is less addictive than xanax. Still they are all addicting if you abuse them. I had to go to a shrink to get the meds, because my doc was unsure of what is going on. You may suggest pharmacological help until you get a psych appointment. I took ativan for 3 years and have been off it for 6 years. I still get anxiety attacks but I am learning to handle them. I wish you the best of luck.

Sure, you can always request to try a specific medication for a condition. Doctors usually go along with it to try unless there are contra-indications for any other conditions you may have. Just be sure to tell the Doc. if you are on anything else or have any other medical conditions. Sometimes they suggest a comparable drug because of side effects, but by all means, ask.

Xanax is good, for some people.

But, you really should give your doctor a chance to assess your situation and suggest appropriate treatment. All these drug company ads are doing a fine job of informing consumers about the names of drugs, but there's really no sign that they're improving overall healthcare.

They may well be a more appropriate drug (or a non-chemical treatment) for you.

It all depends on the Dr. and what they feel is causing your anxiety. They may try that but nmay not. All Dr.s are different. To ask may not be good but, you can say you don't want to try anything that is psychotrophic or going to take weeks to work. Ask for somthing that is pretty much well tolerated and been around for a long time. You can say someone you know takes it and they seem to get benefits from it. Like I say they are all different though. Good luck.

Your doctor will know what medication will work best for you. You can mention a drug's name and ask what they think about it for your use and problem.

Good luck. Hope you are feeling better soon.
