My 4lbs shih-tzu may have eaten a small piece of either garlic or onion, not sure (it was about 1 inch big...so not a lot). She vomited this morning, but has had no other symptoms that something is wrong. Well, she's been peeing a lot, but no blood in her urine...what should i do?

I wouldn't worry, my puppy eats onions all the time. Since your dog has already vomited she should be fine. She may have a bit of diarrhea, but it is probably out of her system by now.

If you are seriously worried give your vet a call and talk to them about it.

I am not sure of the reaction a dog would have with that kind of food, I do know that it is bad for them. If she has no other symptoms I wouldn't be too worried. If she is peeing a lot, is she also drinking an increased amount of water? If so, I would take her in to see a vet, especially if she is not eating normal. This could mean she has some kind of infection or is not feeling well.

If it was garlic or onion your dog should be fine. If it was a piece of root or a bulb from the garden which looks very similar to garlic or onion then I suggest you watch closely for any more vomiting. Chances are she got rid of all of it ,but keep and eye out for fever and unusual behavior.

Onions are bad for dogs, if you vet is still open call up, if not call in the morning.

The onions can cause anemia among other things.

My dogs aren't allowed in the kitchen without permission. Maybe you should consider a gate for the safety of your pooch.

I wouldn't worry too much .
1. make sure she drinks her water .
2 . Give her some cooked ground hamburger and rice to settle her stomach .Dogs stomachs are more sensitive than a humans stomach .They throw up on the weirdest things.
3. If she is sick for more than 24 hrs get a vets opinion .
Good luck and good health !

On occassion, I would be chopping onions and drop a piece. My dog was very fast and got it before I did. It never hurt him - as long as it isn't a lot or frequently.

dont worry. she threw it up so its out of her system. theres nothing wrong anymore, just be careful not to let it happen again. an onion is pretty harmless but if it is a poisonous plant then it can be dangerous.
