I have a 3 month of long-haired female chihuahua dog. She "shakes off" a lot (just like what dogs do when they get wet or whatever) and afterwards, she seems like she's dazed and/or dizzy. It's almost as if I'm dangling something in front of her, and she's trying to follow it with her eyes/head...but I'm not actually dangling anything.

I'm guessing she has an ear infection (due to the excessive shaking) but the dazed look afterwards is the most frightening part. Help?

She'll be going in to see the vet in 4 days for her last set of puppy shots, so I just want to be prepared before we go in. Thank you in advance!

she may have an inner ear infection. She may be uncomfortable due to the infection hence the shaking. The Inner ear contains fluid which help the animal ascertain its balance. The vigorous shaking and possible infection are causing her balance to become of kilter. Same thing as when you spin in circles and become dizzy. See if she has any discharge, or if she is scratching at her ears with her paws. Talk to your vet about this as soon as possible.

I'd have to agree with "inner ear infection". The dazed look is probably just because the shaking combined with the fluid in the ear is throwing off her equillibrium. Sinus and ear infections do the same to humans, you just don't hear of many humans shaking their heads around except me O.o

Have the vet check for an ear infection. But the ear infection may be caused by excessive growth of hair in the ears. The vet may need to pluck the hair out of her ears.

Shake your head really really fast and then see how you feel. LOL I would say you are correct that it is an ear infection. If there is fluid in the ear from an infection then when she shakes her head it is throwing off her natural balance. Sounds like the vet visit is the right idea. :) Good luck!

She may have an inner ear infection. There is also a possibility she may have something in her ear that she is trying to shake out. Try to get your vet to see her sooner.

I wouldn't panic until you've talked to the vet she might just be making herself dizzy. I had a dog that would do that and then fall over after shaking herself like she was wet took her to the vet and he said it was just her thing.

ask your vet if your dog could have eplipesy. When dogs have seizures they shake alot and afterwards they become tired and dazed. if the dog has problems with it's eyes it's a possibility that your dog could have seizures.

Probably her little peanut-size chihuahua brain is spinning around.
