In other words, what helps you decide what is right and what is wrong?

Lets see now....How can it be measured? Know one knows how much that can be known exists. I'm fairly well traveled and I don't believe even half of what most people say about what they think and believe and know. So I guess, just going by the difference in focus, not here to collect the material of the world, but instead to learn what I can about why we exist and to do it with intensity...I'd have to say...yeah ignorance doesn't ever seem to go away on the personal level...there is always more to understand, to overcome and you could say that the most important knowledge is the real frontier.

Deciding whats right and wrong isn't so hard if you focus on the ten commandments and the Golden Rule. Those are good rules for anyone.

I believe it really is true that the basis for everything that we ever need in life is already learned by the time we are five years old. Some of it may need to be 'unlearned' but that's another answer.
As to the 'basis of my authority', I think it's as each person sees it. Sometimes that's good, sometimes that's bad. That's why we have laws. But in any case, responsibility is best served up individually especially since that's the way God will view it. So what other way could it be.
I bet a lot of people won't understand what I'm saying but that's OK too.
I feel myself going on,

The worlds total knowledge? Maybe 6%, and that is probably stretching it a lot.

I decide right and wrong based on the principles that I have learned through my life, the laws of our land, and just plain common sense..

I believe that it is intrinsic within each of us [in our heart of Hearts] to determine what is 'good' and what is 'bad' as far as "being created in God's image" goes.

We all learn that WISDOM is acquired --and gets passed on to the next generations-- as one accumulates enough Knowledge and Experience in LIFE.

Here are *some excerpts* I found from my late Mom's writings about "Life's Lessons..." PASS IT ON:

----------------------

I've learned that I should make the little decisions with my head and the big decisions with my heart.

I've learned that you can get by on charm for about fifteen minutes. After that you'd better know something.

I've learned that you should keep your promises no matter what.

I've learned that you should fill your life with experiences, not excuses.

I've learned that if you wait until all conditions are perfect before you act, you'll never act.

I've learned that it's never too late to improve yourself.

I've learned that if love isn't taught in the home, it is difficult to learn it anywhere.

I've learned that it's just as important to forget a wrong as it is to remember a kindness.

I've learned that if love will break your heart, it's worth it.

I've learned that I still have have a lot to learn...

...

-------------------------

Peace be with you!

With google and such I guess we have access to more knowledge than ever before but that does not necessarily translate to wisdom. The way we decide right and wrong is based on our belief system and the moral guides we adhere to but in the end we are all given a conscience and we need to make our decisions based on that. In my case the Bible is my primary guide and my conscience lets me know if I am interpreting it correctly.

What is right today may not be right tomorrow. what is right for you may not be right for me and what can only be right perhaps is our way of accepting the difference between us with repect.
Knowledge available for us to learn is as vast and as deep as the ocean and everytime we learn more the more it tells us that we know less. The basis of his authority is therefore limited by the time for which he knew enough until another more learned comes to prove or disprove his theory. So you're right may not always stay right.

We all possess the total knowledge of the entire Universe if we
would just listen to it occasionally instead of running around like chicken little, we would realize this fact

I would rather not have the worlds knowledge, I would rather have the knowledge that God gave to us in his inspired word the Bible.
