Singing is the sign of the heart's joy (cf. Acts 2:46).

Saint Augustine said, "Singing is for one who loves."

And there is also the ancient proverb: "One who sings well prays twice."

Homilies (sermons) are always spoken.

During special occasions there can be a 'High' Mass where many of the prayers are sung instead of spoken by both the priest and the congregation.

The General Instruction of the Roman Missal states:

The Christian faithful who gather together as one to await the Lord's coming are instructed by the Apostle Paul to sing together psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs (cf. Col 3:16).

With love in Christ.

it's part of the litergy for the Catholic religion. Anglicans, Lutherans, and several others also chant or sing the litergy.

If you would like to hear more meat to an explaination of the bible and biblical principles that are more relevant to you, I would suggest you look for a newer Evangelical congregation to fellowship with.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with questioning your religion or the bible - so long as your search involves those who believe in it rather than those who ridicule it. There is also nothing wrong with changing your place of fellowship and worship. Catholics and Evangelicals for example, believe in the same God - only from different perspectives. If you are on a quest - ask the Lord to direct you to the place where He would have you worship in communion with a church body.

For most of history it was only sung. I think even the Didache written in 50 AD mentions it. Singing activates a different area of your brain and you remember things differently and better for that matter.

I don't know ... maybe because they think it sounds nicer.

Priests and celebrants in other religions sometimes do this too.

I'm Catholic, and sometimes I like it when the priests sing the prayers -- but other times I like it when they just recite them, because then we can finish faster!

He does that just to wake people up...Usually the mass in Catholic churches is soooooooooo boring that people cannot avoid falling asleep and when the priest realises that more than the 87% of the people are sleeping he sings.
If they snore the percentage goes down to 56%

They do it to pretend they are holier than the common people and they have no clue who Jesus Christ is are what the scriptures say about him if they did they would not pray to Mary and they would certainly not have him still up on the cross
