Well, little dogs don't usually "chill" that much, but I think that Pomeranians are good little dogs as are small poodles. Poodles are also extremely smart and should learn manners pretty quick. Just make sure the dog is getting enough exercise on a daily basis, otherwise you will be in for a destructive and hyper dog. Not something Grandma will probably want. Good luck. I would check the shelters first...they usually do behavior checks and an older dog might suit her better. It will be out of the puppy stage and would love a Grandma to dote on it all day. :)

Go to the shelter and take gramma. There are always nice small dogs who are already house trained that would love a nice quiet home. There is no need to spend the money on a purebred. A nice little mutt will give gram unconditional love, and you will be saving it from a sad situation.

Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are smaller than a Cocker Spaniel, great little companions for the elderly, and can still keep their owners active on daily walks. They are not major-barkers, but they do of course need some obedience training. Keep them regularly groomed and feed them a good kibble, and they will really love you for life.
I recommended a CKCS for my 60+ mom as she lives on her own in Denver and needed a friend. She is happy as can be. They go for walks every morning and evening together and Merri sleeps by her feet when she reads.

I agree with the Chihuahua. MIne is loving and compassionate .. Doesn't need a lot of exercise and is happy just sitting in my lap..He does bark when he hears strange noises though..which makes him a great watch dog...and nobody dare comes in my house or knocks on my door..he will protect me till death...Chi s stay between 4-8 pounds and pretty chilled.

Most dogs are not quite. But the best small dog for the elderly or for just about anyone is a chihuahua. They are absolutely the best dog ever. They are sweet, smart, loving, loveable, cuddly, wonderful little lap dogs. My husband's boss lady bought one of our chihuahua pups for her mother who had never owned a chihuahua before and she is so in love with that little dog!!! She had her housetrained the first day!

I would recommend a senior dog and a smaller non-shedding breed such as a bichon frise.

I wouldn't say a really small dog because they bark too much! I would say a cocker spaniel. I would get my grandma a fish or a turtle or a hamster/guinea pig!

I would suggest a 13 inch Begal there super loving my sister in law's barily barks he's super loving. Loves to cuddle he does shed and stuff but he has a short coat so the shedding is minimal and he dosent need to get his fur cut every three months like long haired dogs do.

A Miniature Shcnauzer.They are easiely trained and are a very good people dog.

Usually elderly people go for the smaller breeds because they dont repuire much excercise. I would reccomend one of the toy breeds like a pug.
