why is it so hard to except people from the south because of our accent?

I have lived in Tennessee my whole life and it seems like every time I go out of state someone is always making comments about my southern drawl

Actually i don't think its hard for me to make friends with southerners ,maybe its because i was raised in Florida and meet all kinds of cultures(i live in new york now) personally i don't think its hard to accept southern people its just a little funny in the beginning (the accent) but to tell you the truth who cares? i mean once i get to know the person i see them more beutiful and i even forget about the accent..

I find no trouble in accepting people form the south. My fiance has a southern accent and I love him. I actually find the accent interesting. If people are giving you problems, just ignore them, they are obviously ignorant to the fact that people from other parts of the country have plenty to offer.

different types of accents are cool, I like southern accents, European accents, and all the different accents that I have heard before.

I never knew this was a problem. I have had no trouble being accepted anywhere. I'm from Alabama. Don't worry about other people just do your thing. They will warm up if you show confidence.
