I think you are talking about "seasoning" the pan.
This method works on iron and stoneware, but not aluminum, stainless steel or any "non-stick" surfaces.

Rub some oil all over it and put it in a hot oven (about 400 degrees) for 10 minutes or so. Take it out and let it cool.
A seasoned pan gets better every time you ise it, so use it often and within a few months you will have a fabulous pizza pan.

PS. Cornmeal is a great alternative, makes a professional home-baked pizza.

It's called seasoning the pan and here's how

How to Season Cast Iron BBQ Grills and Burners

If your outdoor gas barbecue has a grill and burners made out of cast iron, you should season them once every six months or so to keep them in good condition and prevent rust.
Steps

1. Preheat your oven to 275 degrees.
2. Wash and dry the grill and burners.
3. Cover them with a light coating of vegetable oil.
4. Place in the oven for thirty minutes.
5. Remove and let cool, then reinstall on your BBQ
6. Re-season the pan every six months.

I wouldn't burn it, just use corn meal. That usually keeps the dough from sticking.
