... and this will take you to the actual endnotes. How is this done?

Also, what is the best way to protect the integrity of a PDF? Is it possible to make it so people can not cut and paste sections out of it?

One final thing, the Word document is a multiple chapter book. Is there a way to put the endnotes at the end of each chapter (with their own, individual numbering sequences) not all together at the end of the book?

Well, if you just want to make it a PDF with no interactivity, you can use the program located at www.pdf995.com. Links, etc probably have to be done with Adobe, which you'll need to purchase.

These days, anyone with PDF Converter and Writer, can save a Word document to PDF and convert a PDF to Word.

Re: Your multiple chapter book, to have numbering begin anew with each chapter, you could put each chapter in a section.

This sounds like a large document. Not a good idea - makes movement slow and, if you do not save often, your PC could freeze while you are in the middle of working.

You could also have each chapter in its own document -- Chapter 1, Chapter 2, etc.

People cannot cut & paste a PDF, that is the purpose of it! It's a non-editable document.

The only way to creat links in a PDF is to create it with the Adobe Suite, which will cost you many, many hundreds of dollars. Ditto the endnotes.

Alternatively you can sign up for 'a la carte' services for a monthly fee from Adobe here:

I presume you do have Adobe's pdf creation software, but if not try OpenOffice from OpenOffice.org. It is free open source software that will open and manipulate MS's Office software. You can create pdf documents from any of it's applications
