I have not seen like that...but The Bible refers to light in many places, that God is light for us in many aspects....Ps.4:6, Ps 56:13, Isa. 2:5, Ps.36:9, Lk.8:16, Ac.13:47, 2Co.4:6......I can give hundreds of references from The Bible....so some Christians may be lighting candle in each window....strong believers...Praise God!

M.G. is on the right track, it did signal to travelers as a safe haven and your loved ones. Especially during the winter months when the nights are longer and a blizzard could blow up at anytime. If you saw the light you had shelter and food. Back in the 1800's the western part of the United States wasn't very populated by settlers and because lies and stories were told about the Indians the pioneers didn't trust them. I used to live in the Western United States for 8 years. I finally got out of there. I will not go back because of the winters they have!!!

Actually, they are called Chris Lights.

In thousands of homes across the nation, a single light shining in a window has quickly become a universal symbol of love and support for the men and women in the US Military and our Allies deployed overseas to protect us and our country.

Put a light in your window and leave it shining night and day. No matter when our men and women in uniform come home, the lights will be on.

This is not a political issue. It is very simply about people who perform a job for us and letting them and their families know we are thinking of them.

well even though i am gay i think i can consider myself as "people" and i have never put a lit candle in each window...Not even an unlit candle...
Now that i think of it why should people do that???
Because they are weird or because there is no light in the street and they want to help other people to get their way...In the U.S everything is possible

It is a pagan tradition. You put candles out to welcome the birth of the god. It is believed that the extra light was an encouragement for him to come out and join the the world.

Because it's pretty. But I think it goes back to the ancient days when people would have a festival of lights to welcome back the Sun.
