I am a Beauty School graduate and I myself use Rogaine. Rogaine will ONLY work for you if your hair loss is due to a hormonal problem. For instance, I have polycystic ovarian disease which causes my ovaries to produce more testosterone and androgens which are male hormones. The effect it has on me is that it causes my hair to fall out. I have been using Rogaine for 3 years now and will have to use it forever. It has worked (I use 10% mens strength) and my hair no longer falls out.

Now, I can't say if it will work for you because I don't know hwy your hair is falling out. If you do not have a problem with hormones or a form of Alopecia, Rogaine will not work for you.

Rogaine will not work for hair loss due to wearing tight ponytails, hair dying, overstyling, etc.

I know you dont have insurance but your best bet is really to go to a Dermatologist. They will examine your hair and scalp and determine what is causing your hair loss.

I hear you on teh fake hair! There was a time when I was all weaved up and buying hair was becoming costly.

If you wear weave, stay away from bonding glue. It will only pull your hair out more.

See a doctor - but some people bald prematurely.

The main ingredient in Rogaine is minoxidil; minoxidil is actually (or also) a blood pressure medication, and I take it for my blood pressure, but have to say that although I don't have much of a bald spot, it has been growing back, so I would have to say yes, it works.

If Rogaine is topical (comes in a cream, applied to the skin), then I can't say anything about that, but minoxidil does have the side effect of hair regrowth. Worth a shot.
