Hartz doesn't work you have to go with Front Line and apply it with a rubber glove to the back of the dog instead of from the tube to avoid sores on dog its good stuff and I live in the deep south have to use it only 3-4 times a year.Advantage also works.

I've seen very few clients who have any luck with Hartz. Your best bet is to go to your vet and buy Frontline Plus or Revolution, and follow the directions (especially the bathing rules and application instructions.)
Think of it this way: Even though Hartz is cheaper, if it doesn't even work then you are totally wasting your money. It would be a lot less trouble to just throw that money in your trash can than to drive all the way to the store ;)
Put your money to good use and get the stuff from your vet if you actually have a flea problem. Good luck!
Edit: I'll throw in a bit about how the products work, FYI.
Frontline works by getting into the dog's oil system. You do not want to bathe the dog 3 days before or after applying the product because you want them to have some oil to help transport the product throughout the body. Once it spreads, it seeps into the skin, then seeps out for about a month as the dog naturally produces oil.
Revolution works in a different, more easily-explained way: It is simply absorbed into the bloodstream. It requires a prescription because it also contains a heart worm preventative (major plus and a money saver!) It's better for dogs with extremely dry skin since it doesn't rely on the whole "oil transport" system.

OTC flea products are dangerous. They can cause skin irritations, skin burns, neurological issues, kidney issues, seizures even death. The reason products such as Frontline aren't guaranteed when bought online or from a pet store is because the company does not distribute their product ot anyone other then licensed vets...the not guaranteeing doesn't mean the product might not work but rather if your pet becomes ill from a product from online or the pet store you are on your own...the company will not help with vet bill's, etc. You need to remember the OTC meds are cheap for a reason and you need ot steer clear of them especially HARTZ products which are at the top of the dangerous & death list. The only safe place ot buy your flea products is from your vet. As a vet tech I'll tell you I would never ever risk my pets life on the OTC products just ot save a few bucks...I've seen far too many pets harmed or killed by OTC products.

Hartz is not a good product and can even cause health problems. Use a product like Advantage or Frontline which doesn't absorb into the body.
I order Advantage from Australia and with conversion, I pay $30 for 6 large tubes and shipping.

Don't use ANY OTC flea products especially Hartz..they aren't effective plus they can cause neurological problems, seizures and death. Get a good quality, safe flea product from your vet.
Hartz products are very, very dangerous. I can't tell you the number of pets we have treated at the hospital for burns, neurological problems and seizures from use of this product. I also can tell you that many pets have died as a result of use of this product. There are numerous warnings and lawsuits out there against them.
Hartz, Zodiac, Sargents, Bio-Spot and other OTC products use a very potent, very concentrated pesticide in their products. These pesticides are dangerous to humans let alone pets. They are pesticides that are used on lawns and such and when applied the appicator needs to wear protective clothing, gloves, eye wear and breathing apparatus, but yet it is sold for use on our pets...doesn't make sense. These products unlike Frontline or Advantage go into the pets system and get into their organs...very dangerous indeed. People who use these products because they are cheap are playing Russian Roulette with their pets life..they are playing a fools game and could end up spending $$$$$$ on vet bills or even worse losing their pet as a result.
Frontline and Advantage work by spreading with the oil on the skin(it doesn't absorb into the skin) and by getting into the hair folicles. The fleas don't have to bite the pet in order to die.Frontline also kills the eggs & larve. If using Frontline don't give the dog a bath for 24 hours before or 48 hours after application.
****jmrob29, calf wormer has absolutely nothing to do with flea products or flea removal******

If you go to petmeds.com & get FRONTLINE PLUS you will get three treatments. I use one treatment every THREE months. I use it on all 6 of our dogs. It works on fleas & ticks. Just be sure that you apply it CORRECTLY, onto the SKIN between the shoulder blades & do NOT bathe the dog for at least a week after applying it, to give it a good chance to start working. Hartz does NOT hold a flicker of a candle to Fronline Plus & many dogs are allergic to it. Same with a product called Bio-Spot or something like that. Frontline Plus can even be used on young puppies where many store bought types cannot...

If you have a pet, you want to use quality products, especially poisons that you are putting on their bodies, like flea and tick killers.
Frontline and Advantage are the best. I find that Frontline works the best in my area, in the mountains with alot of ticks, and last year we were all but tickless using that product.
Your dog has to rely on you for everything.... that means good food and care. They are complex social beings, and have a sense of smell far beyond humans, so when you put a smelly poison like Hartz on them, it can bother them for a long time. Give your dog the best you can. His/her life is in your hands and "the cheapest" is never good. You dont buy the cheapest stuff for yourself.... dont do it to your dog!

The best thing I've found to rid your dog of fleas and Ticks is a concentrated Eucalyptus shampoo. It works better than any chemical I've tried and because it is natural, won't cause your pet any adverse reactions. Just shampoo your dog with it every bath day, and in addition, buy a good flea and tick collar (Hartz is a good brand) and you'll be surprised at how well it works. A big bonus is that it is very inexpensive as well.
