I enjoy learning about various cultures and religions, so I was just wondering if someone could give me a brief, but concise overview of what Satanism is. I've read that there are ten degrees of Satanism, what are they, and what do they stand for? Are all Satanists atheists? Or do they all condemn God and choose to turn away from Him? What do they hope to gain from following this path? Do they worship Satan himself, or do only certain Satanists do that? Do they believe in the afterlife? Do they feel like they should uphold ethics, morals, values, etc...? or do they think that since there is no retribution for sin that they could do anything they want with no regard for others? I'm not here to condemn or support this path, I am just looking to learn about it, so please, constructive responses only.

Satanism is a very complex subject. There is, for example , LaVey satanism, which is atheistic in nature. As well as Theistic Satanism, which is theistic.
The common ground is that they are about self-empowerment. Tapping into the human potential to be a god, to be everything. Theistic Satanism uses their deities to help them.
Hedonism, and physical pleasures is also a part of this. A common feeling is, "Kindness to those who deserve it, violence to those who deserve it," instead of saying they are elite, they co-mingle with others. However, if you are rude to them, expect rudeness in return

There is no simple answer to this. If you asked, "what is a Christian" the simple answer is, one who believe Jesus Christ was the son of the one true God. So the simple answer to, "what is a Satanist" is one who believes and follows Satan. But there are many Christian religions just as there are many religions that could be called Satanists. All different from each other in varying degrees.
Fact is, all of the Christian religions accept the existence of Satan and all for the true Satanists believe in the existence of God. Each are included in the mythology of the other. Although the early Christians had a habit of literally demonizing the deities of any other religion so many of the cults and religions and demons that you might hear about as "Satanic" were in fact just other religions that the Christians didn't approve of.
Of course if you can't beat them, join them. Like how the celebration in honor of Saturn (a fat guy with a white beard) was such a popular Winter holiday that the Christians took it over and made Saturn into Santa Clause and Saturnalia in to Christmas. Of course if you were to suggest we hold a Winter Solstice/Saturnalia celebration I'm quite sure you would have some Christians calling you a Satanist.

Satanism is more focused on the self rather than in reallywoirshipping a deity. They opnly use Satan as symbol of strong egoism. Contrary to what fundamentalist cranks and hatemongers like Pat Roberts and Rush Limbaugh think Satanism is not about cruelty. Quite the opposite as evidenced by some of the 11 Satanic Rules of The Earth.
#3. When in another’s lair, show him respect or else do not go there.
#9. Do not harm little children.
#10. Do not kill non-human animals unless you are attacked or for your food.
Definately stands in contrast of Christianity's condoning and in some cases outright encouragement of murder and slavery and homophobia in it's own bible.

Jesus, will all of the uninformed among the christian community just stop posting tripe on this question?
Satanism is not a cult, it's not satan worshipping, get over yourselves.
Satanism is about being individual and being a strong character in yourself, finding your own morals. There are different aspects of it, for example satanism does not preach mindless love, it teaches that it's okay to hit someone who hits you rather than turning the other cheek. It teaches you to be yourself and put together your own moral code from within rather than from a dictated source. That is why it is satanism, because it isn't about taking law from god.

English isn't my community language, i'm sorry for any misspellings. I save in options studying an editorial about them and in accordance to what I study, they don't position self belief in devil, they do exactly not position self belief in supernatural ( yet i does not call them atheists ) so those human beings have a tendency to have some kind of dogma to strive against with faith and non secular perspectives and do precisely the different of what religions inform you to do. for sure there those who position self belief in devil and worship him regrettably.

Satanism, is just the practice of collectively joining as a group , and try to generally do socially unacceptable things in secret, such as witchcrafts, sacrifices, voodoo, fearful chantings and all sorts of crazy things. No one has even seen Satan, or even if such a person/thing exists.
Some times even normal people just ge tired of their lifestyle and seek something alternate and different to do.
Human beings have always been interested in taboo , and secretive subject matters.
Now different cults and groups of satanism believe different things . For more information on all of this refer to wikipedia below:

Only 144,000 will go to Heaven. If you can't assure your seat in Heaven then make sure they're not keeping your seat warm for you in Hell.
