Hi i did somework for a guy that not paying, i have been in contact with him and no luck. Is it easy to file suit ect. or can i get stuck with attorney fees and still get nothing out of him "i have heard this happening." the amount is 5483

You just need to talk to an attorney, or hire a collection service. Dose this guy or business have any property. You could put a lein on that. I would just get some advise from a attorney they will give you a direction to go with. If all fails try to settle for 4k lets say and write off the 1400. it would save you a head ache and you can claim it as a loss at tax time.

You can go to small claims court and don't need a lawyer, but it may just end up costing you more than it's worth. You have to pay to file a claim and you have to pay to have the guy served with papers. On top of that, if the judge rules in favor of you, the guy that owes you the money still may not pay and you'll be stuck with just a judgement on paper with no way to collect. Sorry.

SMALL CLAIMS COURT is your friend. The limit on the amount you'll sue for is set by state law. Don't forget to add a bunch in for a few hours to collect the bill, serve him papers, etc etc.
