I have a Sony television with 1080p. It is the SXRD series. I bought the component cable set for my PS3 and I set the settings for the Play Station to 1080p but iit is not displaying 1080p. Whenever i set the 1080p it shows up with static. Any ideas of what I am doing wrong.

Are you trying to watch a Blu-Ray movie, or are you trying to play a game? When playing a Blu-Ray disc, the PS3 only outputs up to 1080i over component cable. 1080p on the PS3's Blu-Ray player is only possible over HDMI.

I'm not sure about games, though--you'd think that PS3, touting its 1080p capablilities, would allow its 1080p games to be played at 1080p over component. The issue's a bit moot, though, as most PS3 games are 720p.

I recommend using an HDMI cable, since it's the PS3's highest display compression output. However,to get the best resolution called "Full HD 1080p",you'll need the HDMI cable. However, though most games are using 720p as its highest resolution,i think you'll still have to downgrade a Component 720p display unless you're trying to play a game like NBA 07,which took advantage of 1080p.

I'm hoping that gamemakers of more take advantage of 1080p resolution.

Gotta use the HDMI for 1080P

and don't make the same mistake i did because some cables are not version 1.3 compliant. I bought a real expensive Monster HDMI cable and got no picture. I think it is the 1.3 thing but could not get a straight answer from sony or Monster. Anyway I tried an HDMI that specifically said it was for the PS3 and it worked beautifully

Happy Gaming

Are you putting 1080 content to it, such as Blu Ray disc? Also you may want to use and HDMI cable for your best signal.
