How can I best utilize the treadmill to get the most results (other than plugging it in and jumping on). :) I have upped the water and fruits and veggies, but I know I need to move more. Do you have any tips? I am ready for this, like I was ready to quit smoking, and I am tired of the extra weight. (30 lbs. in 2 years) It is getting too chilly out and dark too early when I am able to go for a walk outside. Thank you in advance.

I am currently uin the same position as yourself, i gave up smoking 5 months ago and i cant believe how much weight i have gained, that was until about 3 weeks ago. I have a treadmill that has 5 settings which helps, i walk for 5 mins at an easy pace then switch up a gear and so on, Also while walking on your tread mill grab two cans of food eg, Baked beans, and wokr ur arms out,im also eating alot of fruit and veges, cutting back the caffine and sugar intake *grrr i have a sweet tooth*, instead of driving try walking, EVERY little bit counts. Dont Eat after 7pm. For snacks eat fruit rather then museli bars and such, another good choice is yoghurt. Check out whats online. BEST OF LUCK DONT give up.

Honestly, you don't need to go overboard with the treadmill to get results. I decided I wanted to lose some weight, mainly because I have always been overweight. The key to loosing weight in terms of what you're eating is to eat a lot less. Fruits and veggies are always a good idea, however you can still eat your favorite foods (just a lot less of them). When I go out to a restaurant, I usually (haven't been too good about it lately) eat just half of my meal. The portions are so huge now, it's not hard at all. Also, I rarely snack between meals, which really seems to help. Since I graduated high school in 2005 I have lost about 25 pounds. For me, this was amazing. Forgive me for going into so much detail about diet, but I really think it proves to be the cause of weight gain more than getting enough exercise. However, exercising does help. I typically set the treadmill at 3.5 for 15-20 minutes. I would like to do it everyday, but sometimes I just do it 3 days a week. You have to motivate yourself. You should set the treadmill at whatever speed is comfortable for you and the same goes for the length. No one else has the same body as you, so only you can determine that. Good luck. Remember to stay motivated. I am still trying to do that!

Walk for an hour (at least) each day. Watch your favorite TV program while you do it. Make sure it's a good, fairly fast pace. Also, do not eat any refined sugar, white flour, or, and this is the biggie, hydrogenated or partially hydrogenated vegetable oils. This stuff causes heart disease and cancer and will keep the weight on. Food can be 0 trans fats (which is good) but still have hydrogenated veg. oils so long as it's less than .5%. So read all labels. Good luck!

Start slowly, if possible read a book or watch TV go for as long as you can up to 30 minutes, if you cant make 30 that's OK your goal for the next session will be one minute later than it was that time until you reach 30 minutes, 30 minutes three times a week is an excellent start. You are doing everything else well! Good Luck!

I think running on the treadmill is a good start.

You can also do resistance training at home. Some easy exercises are pushups, crunches, chair dips. You can also work your biceps by filling gallon jugs or a suitcase and then lifting it.

There are some books out there that have such residential resistance programs. A good one is "Men's Health Home Workout Bible" by Lou Schuler. It has tons of great exercises that can be done in the home with or without equipment.

that's great that you quit smoking. running helps a lot in weight loss. it may be boring, but after you get use to it...you overlook how boring it is because of how you feel after you're done. i usually listen to my ipod or watch TV. sometimes do the hill intervals, it makes time pass by faster too. good luck!

The best exercise to lose weight with is sex. Burns calories and tones muscles at the same time. I'm available if you need help.

If you don't like running, ramp up the incline, just a little at first but maintain speed and move yourself up. It burns away your backside (which I am a fan of) and it's nearly as good as running without the knee stress.
