I have been communicating with this guy that goes to school with me a lot over winter break and we have planned to get together on New Years. Should I bring something up to his house as a gift? I would feel weird going empty handed... any suggestions?

Im a Bostonian ( Bay Village location to be exact) For what you told us, You've been talking to this guy for several months and I know for sure that you know what he likes and dislikes. I'm a very romantic guy, I think flowers are great. But just dont get him something common. I mean roses are wicked cool dont get me wrong but it's not my fave. I prefer calla lillies. If you dont like flowers, go to Copley square. Buy him some chocolate. Govida chocolate is a great idea. I know they have something that already been gift wrapped. Great present actually. A cute bracelet or a cufflinks are wicked awesome as well. It doesnt really matter what you give him. This is the first time you are going to meet this guy. And im guessing that you like him and he likes you too. Just be yourself, take him to lunch or dinner, book a reservation at paparazzi ( my fave italian restaurant) the one in Dartmouth St. Have fun and Enjoy his visit. Take care... Say HI if you see me around Boston .....

Bring a bottle of champaigne or wine. Maybe even a single flower. Any color but yellow. Unless of course you only want to be friends. Just let him know that you're not trying to get with him to see what you can get and it will probably turn into something really special. Most guys, including myself like it when they know their girlfriend isn't around for the materialistic things.

Yes, it is good to bring a gift if you are invited to his house. If you are over 21 a good standard is to bring wine. If not, try something like cookies in a tin, or New Years hats and noisemakers for the evening.

Yes, you don't want to go empty handed, but you don't want anything expensive either, I would bring a bottle wine with a nice wine bag. something of cloth is classy. The wine is also cheap enough you don't have to go crazy :-)

It's always nice to give gifts to prospective boyfriends/girlfriends, but not necessary.

You can always take a bottle of wine - it is simple and elegant.

Hope you have fun.
