Some supermarkets do stock it (but it is very expensive). Tumeric would be a reliable substitute if needed. Go to Coles or Woolworths and ask if they have it in the herb aisle. Small packets of strands are available for about $5.

Most quality grocers should carry it in very small quantities. In most recipes it is used more for color than flavor. But, as was said before, turmeric is a nice substitute.
