My boyfriend and I took our dog to our families' Christmas gatherings on Sunday and Monday. We were gone from home (but with our dog) from Sunday afternoon to Monday night. The dog knows both of our families extremely well and he stayed right by our side the entire time, but we went to three different houses, and I'd imagine it could cause some stress. He didn't really eat Sunday night or Monday morning, but he ate when we got home, and his appetite continues to be normal. Last night, he went diarrhea in one of the houses (he's NEVER had an accident in any house) and he's continued on with it till now. He's still eating and drinking plenty of water though and he's not dehydrated.

Could this have been brought on by the stress of the weekend?

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

There is NO way he got into chocolate. As for other food, nothing out of the ordinary. Everyone in my family has dogs of their own, too, so they know how to care for them.

When my dog had diarrhea the whole time he was whining and shaking and staring at me begging me to take him outside every 3 minutes so he can poo-poo he refuse to do it inside our place. And he keeps throwing up too. every time he drinks water or eat he throws up, we ended up taking him too the vet at midnight and we ended up spending $300. So if your dog is throwing up and poo-pooing every 3-5 mins, and his whining he definitely need to be taken to the vet.

It is very rare for a child her age but my baby at 5 months had the same problem it could be an intestinal blockage. If she starts passing a lot of blood or pukes up anything green take her in ASAP it could be fatal one kid 17 years old here in Winnipeg died from it and my kid almost did too. Any blood is A HUGE cause for concern. An Xray will determine if this is the problem demand it if it is not offered I think you really need to take her in. She will have to have either surgery or they will do an enima to try to flush out the blockage..good luck and dont worry she will be fine

Collies & Shelties are very sensitive dogs and YES they can get stressed out. If he doesn't improve within the next day or so, call and talk to your Vet. Since he is eating and drinking, it should not be an emergency to rush him in, just try and settle him down, back to normal and I bet he gets better real soon.

Well I think that since you brought the dog to gatherings and to se other people the dog probably felt like " Wow who are you?, who is he?" so in my opinion it was probably just the case of over excitment since the dog has never had an accident until then.

Sure stress can do it, but so can the water. If you went to another town to visit and gave him water there this may be what is upsetting his tummy. Different towns treat their water differently when we travel we take gallons of our tap water and if this is not possible start giving your dog bottled water 2 weeks ahead of time and when you get there you can buy his water :o)

Sounds like your beloved pup just got a little stressed. As long as he is eating and drinking, once he gets back into his own environment and routine he should be fine. Best of luck

Not unless you have a very stress-averse dog. It sounds like he got into some food that didn't agree with him. Might he have gotten into some chocolate (it will make them very sick, or worse, depending on how much and what type of chocolate and what type of dog)?

Try watching his diet. Make sure there isn't any mold or bugs in his food. If the diarrhea keeps on coming, go to the vet.

sometimes not eating for so long then eating could do it. Also maybe someone gave your dog something to eat he should not have eaten. It happens sometimes. But it usually works itself out.

Maybe he doesnt feel confortable eating in other houses, so when he ate alot, it caused him to digest faster and probably not normally, so there you go.
