You should talk with your doctor, your community midwife and your community mental health nurse. All of these would have some information to help you understand what is going on, and so would your paediatrician.

It will take time to give you accurate information with regard to your child's prognosis - how your child develops will depend on the care your child gets - the love and stimulation you can give your baby matter a lot.

Good luck with everything.

Can you be a little more specific?

According to the National Institute of Neurological Disorders, cerebral atrophy is a common feature of many of the diseases that affect the brain. Atrophy of any tissue means loss of cells. In brain tissue, atrophy describes a loss of neurons and the connections between them. Atrophy can be generalized, which means that all of the brain has shrunk; or it can be focal, affecting only a limited area of the brain and resulting in a decrease of the functions that area of the brain controls. If the cerebral hemispheres (the two lobes of the brain that form the cerebrum) are affected, conscious thought and voluntary processes may be impaired.

What additional information can you provide?

I agree your doctor is the person to best ask.
I apologise if this is irrelevant, but I just wanted to add whatever happens release it in the hands of God & as hard as it is, know that it's in God's hands & His will. Accept His Will & please pray to God & Mother Mary to help heal your baby.

PS> have you tried healing? it might help. it's done by the laying on of hands & it's very gentle. if you're interested please go to this site for your nearest centre.(they don't chrage anything & they work on donations only). Please forgive me if I'm being intrusive, I thought it might help!
