The pain depends alot upon yourself and your pain factor. I really didn't think it hurt that bad.

Advantages...okay lets face it there's not really THAT many real advantages to body modification except that it's something you do to yourself as your own choice so I say if you want it done do it, you only live once. But lets see, healing time for your tongue is really quick. Surf around here, it has stories of people who have had all sorts of peircings done and you can compare multiple stories and how their healing times went and all that plus pictures if you want to get an upclose idea how it really looks (the stories are off to the side): http://www.bmezine.com/pierce/02-tongue/bme-pg02.html

Disadvantages: Tounge peircings can get infected pretty easily since it is in your mouth and your mouth is a dirty place no matter how much you clean it but again, the healing time is short and if you take care of your peircing then the chances of it getting infected go down considerably, in EXTERMELY rare cases I've heard of a few people getting speach impediments of sorts from wearing their tounge studs (serously though that's sortof a freak incident...unless you do it yourself..that also increases the chance of something bad happening)

Well, I used to have my tounge pierced but I ended up taking it out. It does hurt like HELL!!!!

The disadvantages are that after you get it done, you really cant eat much cuz it hurts and you aren't used to having the piercing in your mouth. So you pretty much live off of soft foods or liquids for awhile. I always bit on mine when I was trying to eat something solid that I did have to chew. You do have to clean out your mouth after everytime you eat, drink, smoke(if you do), pretty much anytime you put something into your mouth so it doesnt get infected.

The only advantage would be if you want to lose weight, it helps since you can't really eat much until the pain and swelling goes away and you get used to the piercing being there.

Good luck and hope that I could be of some help!

Two of my kids have had it done, the first 24 hrs is the worse and its lots of salt water rinsing and coke apparently it helps??? For the rest they seem OK didn't have any problems speaking and were done by a professional piercer. The does side is my son teeth cost over $2000 to fix because of the tongue piercing and the labrette piercing his teeth were damaged front and back, he's 21 and has the teeth of a person considered elderly, his attitude is he'll get dentures :-( oh well, the other child has teeth damage but is persevering with the pain of hot and cold by using a desensitizing toothpaste but she to will need a large amount of dental work and the dollars for that just keep mounting.

actually, adult males want piercings on the ear. Tonge and abdomen piercings can be a actual turn-off... yet whats up, once you're going to make certain one, choos the tummy, each from time to time it ought to seem gorgeous. The tongue is basically disgusting, no guy actual needs to kiss a mouth like that...

It hurts really bad, you have to gurgle mouth wash every time after you eat meals they stick a huge needle through the tongue and quickly place the tongue ring in before it closes up

It hurts really bad for the first few hours, and it can get swollen, but other than that, it should die down.
Pros-
people may think it looks cool
use it to accesorize
Cons-
it will eventually rust your teeth
if pierced in the wrong spot- excessive blood loss will occur
can't have dairy for first few weeks or your blood will drain.
temporary speech problems
take excellent care of it or else you could get a serious infection

It would depend. I have one and this is the stupidest thing ever but I did it myself. Twice. It hurt like hell at first and you do get swollen but it goes down.

Use mouth wash
Keep that area clean
Wash your mouth after you eat a meal
Oh and clean the needle every week.
