I trust God for the happiness to come.
He has promised that it is a gift through His Son and I take Him at His word.
He has kept His promises for this life as I have learned to look for and access/accpet them. It is really a matter of trusting what He has said. That is not always easy. Many times our own thoughts, logic and reason say that He can't or won't do what He has promised even in this life. But those thoughts are just lies and you have to keep on expecting Him to be the one who always keeps His promises..... then you see that He does.
James 1:5-8
5 If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him. 6 But when he asks, he must believe and not doubt, because he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. 7 That man should not think he will receive anything from the Lord; 8 he is a double-minded man, unstable in all he does.
(from New International Version)
Josh 23:14-15
14 "Now I am about to go the way of all the earth. You know with all your heart and soul that not one of all the good promises the LORD your God gave you has failed. Every promise has been fulfilled; not one has failed.
(from New International Version)
Ps 145:13-20
The LORD is faithful to all his promises and loving toward all he has made. 14 The LORD upholds all those who fall and lifts up all who are bowed down. 15 The eyes of all look to you,and you give them their food at the proper time. 16 You open your hand and satisfy the desires of every living thing.
17 The LORD is righteous in all his ways and loving toward all he has made. 18 The LORD is near to all who call on him,to all who call on him in truth. 19 He fulfills the desires of those who fear him;he hears their cry and saves them. 20 The LORD watches over all who love him,but all the wicked he will destroy.
(from New International Version)

Live by the "Golden Rule"..."Do unto others as you would have them do unto you". It covers everything. Follow it and the happiness that you bestow upon others will return to you in the next life (whatever it may be).

I stopped beleiving in an afterlife and I find it makes this life much more enjoyable and happy, rather than guilt ridden and fearful.

Being good in the now-life, I just want to die with no regrets, that means being very careful and very truthful while I am here on
Earth.

Christians don't believe in an 'afterlife', they believe in continued life. The death you imply, is more like sleep. The is however, a second death, and after that, there is nothing....nothing at all...hence...no afterlife!

In Heaven you will be in total peace. The Bible says that it is the peace the surpasses any human understanding.

I enjoy my life to the fullest right now because once you die, that's it. You're dead. Your body rots away and before long, you will be forgotten.
