Because Satanism was established by Anton Szandor LaVey, Founder and High Priest, of the Church of Satan, as well as a writer, occultist, musician, and actor.
He was the main star of Rosemary's Baby. Among his writing's was the Satanic Bible, and the founder of Satanism, in the US.
LaVey began presenting Friday night lectures on the occult to what he called a "Magic Circle" of associates who shared his interests, several of whom was from the Rock music culture.
Where later sexual activities, was permitted as well.
Some attending his services was the killer Charles Manson and the unknown, at the time, Marilyn Manson.
LaVey emphasized the need for a religion, which worshipped the
individual as a carnal beast with desires that needed to be
fulfilled.
This is a large part of what Rock music is, and have been all about.
LeVey who stated in a live interview, that "all religions are coming
around to Satanism, and we are at the throbs of a new satanic age, the evidence is all around us, all the need to do is look at it."
LeVey, who viewed "Satan" not as a literal deity or entity, but as an historic and literary figure symbolic of Earthly values.

A Satanist worships Satan. Hence the name. Otherwise it is some other religion.

They would not, or they are posing....
How you define Satan is the key issue.
Within LaVeys definition of Satan, of course they worship the ideological concept, if not a being....
LaVey's final assessment is that as Satan and all the devils have represented man's carnal nature made sinful, and the opposition of everything from servile god-worship to conformity, Satan as a literary and mythological figure is the ideal symbol for a religion that exalts man's carnal and independent nature. LaVey's view of Satan might be best compared to John Milton's literary Satan, a proud and independent beast.

I'm not one, but in my opinion people who are Satanists but don't believe in Satan, just say it to piss Christians off.
Kind of like how my ex boyfriend used to answer the door in fake-blood covered black robes with a shotgun when he saw Jehovah's Witnesses coming down the street.
People like to do things to get rises out of people. Kind of like how that Orson fellow made fake newscasts of War of the Worlds that panicked the nation who believed Martians were actually attacking.

Satanists view the Bible's representation of Satan as the way all humans should live - by their own accord. In essence, Satanism is the philosophy of "if it feels good, do it!"

You need to read about Satanism. It's pretty easy to find out about. Satanism is basically atheism with punch.

Because Satan is the antihero of God and Satanism is the opposite of Christianity, so why not use their symbols like they stole everyone elses?

Anton LeVay (sp?) is responsible for that. If you've ever read the satanic bible, it's basically telling you to be selfish, worry about making yourself happy, and piss on everyone else. In a very small nutshell.

It has more to do with the *idea* of Satan. He's a figurehead of rebellion and freedom from proscribed ideals.
Shock value doesn't hurt any, either.

They would not be Satanist without Satan. Like a balloonist without a balloon is a pedestrian.
