Seeking admission via internet may cost you very little in terms of paying registration fee for the application. It's no gurantee of admission.

To pay for tution fee and lodging and boarding is another world unless your son can win a scolarship from the university. These fees vary a great deal from one institution to another. All such information is available from individual schools or the official site of US government with respect to international engineering students. Remember there are a number of admission test requirements also, that he has to fulfill prior to his acceptance for admission. Obligations to show that you have sufficient funds to support him for the entire length of his studies. In face of all these requirements, when India's educational institutions are no less. It is a futile exercise. You also have to lie that your son will return back to India after finishing his studies. This assessment by the US embassy is subjective, which means it may involve some unethical means to get from here to there, what for ?

Indian engineers and scientist are just as capable. With your meagre salary you can ill-afford the high costs, therefore your son must try to obtain a scholarship or else forget it, unless he can find his own means. Practical experience is worth a lot more than bookish knowledge.
