I work as a phlebotomist in a moderately sized hospital. I really love my work! Most days.... It's not really a difficult job, just some technical skills involved.
I went through a 12-week training course to learn the background information, and the skills needed to be a clinical phletobomist. After being hired, I worked in the outpatient clinic portion of the laboratory because those people tend to be healthier and sometimes easier to draw. After about 2 weeks and the go-ahead from my supervisor, I moved to inpatients in the hospital which are harder sticks.
My job consists of drawing blood, spinning it in the centrifuge, logging and ordering tests, and taking the samples to the various departments in the lab.
It's a great job that is very rewarding. Good Luck!
