Battery Park - if you can afford it.
Park Slope, Brooklyn would be a great alternative.
Kew Gardens in Queens is less expensive, but farther from Manhattan.

I think the best thing you could do is get a broker. Some buildings allow dogs, some don't. It becomes harder to find a place to live when you have a pet, but it can definitely be done.

Bronx: Riverdale/Fieldston or Throgs Neck

Brooklyn: Brooklyn Heights, Carroll Gardens, Williamsburg, Park Slope

Queens: Astoria, (there are other nice neighborhoods, but I'm not that familiar with Queens, even though i live in it, lol). I currently live in Astoria.

Manhattan: Basically any neighborhood, but I prefer the upper east side or downtown like Battery Park City or the Financial District. Most other hippster neighborhoods are very noisy, if you like the quiet, I wouldnt suggest moving anywhere near midtown.

I work in a law firm too in the city, but as a legal secretary.

Being you are an attorney and could afford to spend.....

(Manhattan)
Murray Hill, Upper West Side, Midtown, Chelsea, Greenwich Village, Hudson Heights

(Brooklyn)
Park Slope

(Bronx)
Riverdale, Spuyten Duyvil

(Queens)
Forest Hills, Howard Beach, Ozone Park

I am not too familiar with Staten Island to give advice though the Todt Hill section is one to consider.
